1. Jury Duty: Got selected for a two day criminal trial, which turned out to be a fascinating, fun, uplifting experience. It was such a good time that I even volunteered to be the presiding juror and got to say fun things like "We've reached a verdict your honor." I highly recommend this civic duty to one and all. If it weren't for being paid only $10 per day, I would consider a career as a professional juror. The only down side was finding a place to pump. Which naturally led to me pumping in front of fellow jurors. Which was strange. But all were supportive or turned away politely in a very Seattle way.
2. Potty training: Simultaneous toddler potty training and infant sleep training is a volatile combo that I only recommend to the adventurous and strong willed, but the good news is that we've emerged victorious on both fronts. I am still in disbelief that our 4 day (we seized the long MLK weekend) potty training boot camp completely worked. And there really isn't anything cuter than a skinny toddler butt in basket ball undies. Of course, there were some trying moments where I found myself wondering if there could be anything more onerous than cleaning up toddler pee from the floor, my slippers, and my pants, all while listening to the infant scream her lungs out in her crib. Parenting really is not for sissies. But it sure is nice to only have one child in diapers.
For anyone daring to go into the potty training trenches, we drew inspiration (as we do in all things home and family) here.
That pretty much brings you all up to speed on this month. It's been an eventful one to say the least. Bring it on February!
