Late Night Musings

The sun has set on my day off. Tomorrow I plunge into my ER shifts. It was nice to have some time to recuperate, and even nicer that my day off was coordinated with the season premier of Glee. Aside from singing show tunes to myself and fantasizing being called in for a Glee casting, I went on a long run and then contemplated writing a book. Not sure if that would take place before or after the Glee casting call.

You see, on my long run I had a lot of time to ponder the various hair-brained schemes and adventures I have partaken of in the past few years. Namely, the ironman, Africa, Bethel, and I might even dig farther back and throw becoming a doctor all together into that mix. I realized that these paths have all been carved out by fear. Or maybe disbelief is a better descriptor. In each instance, I have wondered if I actually could do the task at hand, making me want to do it all the more.

Naturally this has me wondering what I will set my sights on next. This kind of soul-searching is most likely a byproduct of being surrounded by open land and sky. And probably having a bit too much time on my hands after many days of chaos. Or maybe it was over exposure to the smell of fresh moose meat. Either way these thoughts have been percolating ever since my orientation here. We had a talk on the evolution of language and culture Alaska and the speaker asked me (having made the mistake of sitting in the front. Hey, I may be adventurous, but I'm forever a nerd), "Five years ago did you think you'd be in Bethel?" Last night during our carnivorous festival of butchery a member of team moose said, "I bet you never thought you'd be in Alaska watching a moose get cut up, right?" So very true.

Wether my next big adventure will involve writing a book, being cast in Glee, participating in a flash mob, or becoming a pastry chef (just to name a few things I've dreamt of) shall remain to be seen. But I do think it's high time I stop my musings for the evening and return to our regularly scheduled programming for tomorrow.
